Things To Know About The AirDog Lift Pump

The AirDog lift pump is a very vital component in the horsepower game. Apart from making big horsepower a reality, it also adds reliability to the entire fuel system, yields improved filtration and provides infinite adjustability over fuel pressure. Nowadays, it is very rare to peer under any diesel powered pickup and fail to see a lift pump bolted to the frame rail.

So what exactly does the AirDog lift pump do? The job of this lift pump is supplying low pressure fuel from the tank to the injection pump on the vehicle’s engine. A good lift pump, whether aftermarket or original equipment manufacturer, should provide between 8 to 15 psi worth of supply pressure. From there, the injectors or injection pump, depending on the engine and injection system that the engine has, pressurize the fuel that makes its way in-cylinder between 15,000 psi and 30,000 psi.

If the injection pump is not supplied low pressure via the lift pump,  it will have an added job of pulling fuel all the way from the fuel tank, which is usually the case in Duramax applications. When there isn’t adequate diesel feeding into the low pressure side of the injection pump, its life span can reduce drastically. Continued fuel starvation can eventually damage the injection pump or even hurt the injectors.

The AirDog lift pump is very essential element when it comes to making horsepower with a diesel engine.  It provides higher flow rates and can help keep up with the demands of large injectors or modified injection pumps.  Apart from being a catalyst for making horse power, this lift pump also provides added fuel filtration, improved water separation and its supply of pressure can be adjusted.
